FEEA – Keeping Our Promise

As someone who cares about federal employees, you know how important it is that FEEA exists. Our mission to support the everyday needs of civilian federal and postal employees — men and women who are working hard for America but sometimes struggling to support their own families — has proved more necessary than ever these last few years as furloughs, shutdowns, and natural disasters affect the lives and livelihoods of federal families.

In addition to our everyday emergency assistance loans and the annual scholarship program, FEEA has also made promises to more than 200 children who lost parents in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing or at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. With the 20th anniversary of the Oklahoma tragedy just passed, I would like to share with you the story of what FEEA has been doing for Oklahoma City families over the last 20 years.

Promises sometimes seem to be easily made and just as easily broken. But the Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund (FEEA) has been keeping promises to feds for almost 30 years. Whether responding to natural disasters with immediate grants for federal families in need, or awarding scholarships to exceptional students, or providing a safety net when everyday emergencies arise, FEEA has stayed true to its word in helping feds when and where they need it. None of FEEA’s promises are more important, nor more heartfelt, than those we have made to the families of Oklahoma City and the Pentagon.

On an April morning 20 years ago, the peace in Oklahoma City, OK, was shattered by domestic terrorists seeking to harm the government and the nation by attacking its workforce. Nearly 100 federal employees going about their work at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building, members of the community doing business in the federal offices, and children in the on-site daycare center lost their lives that day. A tight-knit community was devastated, and suddenly federal employees feared that simply going to work each day could make them a target. READ MORE

FEEA’s ability to continue providing everyday emergency loans and grants comes from individual donors who give generously even when there is no crisis. Money in the coffers enables us to respond quickly when there is great need, and to keep making no-interest loans every day of the year. During our May campaign only, FEEA sponsor BlueCross BlueShield will match up to $20,000 in donations, so please help FEEA help feds by making your monthly or annual donation today! You can also help by sharing FEEA with your social media network via our Facebook fundraiser post or by Tweeting with the hashtag #FEEApromises2015.  It’s the final week of our annual May Fundraiser and we still need to raise $10,000 to fully take advantage of matching funds from BlueCross/BlueShield.

With gratitude,
