Shannon Mahan, Regional Manager

Shannon MahanI am a Research Geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). I have worked for the USGS for almost 30 years, stationed the entire time at the Denver Federal Center in Denver, Colorado. My professional career is focused on providing geochronology for natural hazards assessment, sediment transport and dating, and paleontological discoveries.

As the new Rocky Mountain Regional Manager, my passion is mentoring my children and children that participate in Science Olympiad at Clear Creek Middle School, writing about the research that comes out of the USGS, reading, and, of course all things FEW. I support the main mission of FEW (to improve the status of women employed by the federal government) by being an officer. I also believe the most effective leaders come from the chapter positions. I have held the following chapter offices: Vice-President, Newsletter Editor, and President. I have held the following regional positions: Secretary, Assistant Regional Manager, and now Regional Manager. I have not yet held any National offices or committee chairs. I have been a lifetime member of FEW since 1996 (20 years!).
